IndyCar teams lose their shirt in Texas
Carlos Munoz's damaged Foyt Racing car |
RACER, with input from Dallara and some team managers, conservatively estimates the crash damage at last weekend's Texas IndyCar race to be $1.8 million. IndyCar no longer publishes race purse payouts because they are so small they are embarrassing. The last published one we saw had the race winner getting $30,000 and it went down from there. By comparison the NASCAR race purse at Texas used to be around $6.8 million per Cup race
In other words the IndyCar team owners lost their shirts Saturday night.
Of course the teams do get money from the Leader Circle welfare program, but that only offsets some of the costs.
