Vintage Racing, Pro-Am results, Trans-Am postponed
The team of Sarah Fisher and Kirk Blaha won their class as well as the overall victory in the 2017 Indy Legends Charity Vintage Pro/AM, driving a 1968 Corvette. Coming in second in another 1968 'Vette were Al Unser Jr and Peter Klutt ("Restoration Garage" host on TV). Coming in third, and first in their class, were Max Papis and Curt Vogt in a 70 Ford Boss 302.
Notable among those running were Bill Elliott, who had created a "very special" 1970 Boss 302, to come in second in class, 4th overall. Also notable were Dick Simon, who, at age 84, finished 15th in class with co-driver James Heck. Paul Tracy was forced into an early retirement after a minor incident on the track — this is vintage racing after all, and there is a zero-contact policy in force.
The action was suspended when a brief, but notable shower, hit the speedway around 4:20. The Trans-Am guys called it a day and will line up tomorrow based on points. The Miata guys will run in an official "rain race". No word yet on further vintage events, including the laps by vintage Indy cars.
