China drives high-performance, zero-emissions car market
Backed by rich investors, companies like Detroit Electric Holdings Ltd., Qiantu Motor, Thunder Power and NEVS are showcasing carbon-fiber cars with top speeds well above 150 mph and are designed to compete with high-end vehicles from Europe, Detroit and Japan.
Many of these muscular, zero-emissions rides cost upward of $1 million.
China, with its focus on cutting greenhouse gas emissions, is well ahead of the world on ultra-high-performance cars.
"We really haven't seen non-Chinese companies get into this super-technology market," said Chris Robinson, who tracks the industry for Lux Research.
