UPDATE AMERICAN motorsport star Robby Gordon may not compete in Australia again after motorsport officials flagged banning him for hooning in Darwin's CBD on the weekend.

Super truck driver Gordon, who's also had a successful NASCAR career in the United States, was caught doing burnouts on the city's main Mitchell Street on Saturday night.

"We had a truck on display, I asked the two security guards, 'Hey, you think I could flip a couple of doughies?' They said, 'I don't care'," he said, reported ABC.

According to ABC, local Judge Richard Coats said:

"It's one of the busiest streets in Darwin, I don't believe the professional driving skills are an excuse," telling Gordon: "I wish I could take away your professional license, but unfortunately I don't have the power to do that" and added he "would have considered sentencing Gordon to jail time for the stunt if he had been in trouble before."

Gordon was in Darwin competing in Stadium Super Trucks, which he formed. He came second in Sunday's race at Hidden Valley Raceway, which also hosted the weekend's V8 Supercars championship race.

The Confederation of Australian Motorsport (CAMS) will indefinitely deny him applying for a competition visa on health and safety grounds.

After his court appearance on Monday (June 19), Gordon downplayed his actions. "I think I did two doughnuts … not to make excuses, but maybe less than five kilometers an hour," he told reporters.

Gordon, 48, was fined nearly $4,000 for what he described as "putting on a show" for Darwinites on the Mitchell Street bar strip on Saturday night.

That leaves him $1,000 up after he won $5,000 on Friday, when he came second in the Stadium Super Trucks race. He also won the Top Ten Shootout lap on Saturday.

He asked permission from club bouncers at Lizard's Bar, which was hosting a Supercar event, before he drove around the city center, he told reporters outside Darwin Local Court on Monday.

"We had a truck on display, I asked the two security guards, 'Hey, you think I could flip a couple of doughies?' They said, 'I don't care'," he said.

"I think I did two donuts, maybe at speed — not to make excuses, but maybe less than 5 kilometers an hour.

"Obviously the wheels were faster than that, but I did two donuts and put it back on the trailer."

Judge Richard Coats said Gordon breached the trust of the public.

"It's one of the busiest streets in Darwin, I don't believe the professional driving skills are an excuse," he said.

He said he would have considered sentencing Gordon to jail time for the stunt if he had been in trouble before.

"I own the series, we make the rules," he said.

"I've done stuff like this probably 200 or 300 times over my career, and heck, some cities promote it.

"Unfortunately here in the NT they frown on it. It is what it is, and if we come back next year, obviously no donuts on Mitchell Street."
