Adelaide to win F1 back
South Australian premier Mike Rann has enjoyed a cup of tea with F1 impresario Bernie Ecclestone. The pair met in London and no doubt discussed the speculated return of the Australian grand prix to Adelaide.
Adelaide hosted F1 for a decade until 1995, when it moved to Victorian capital Melbourne. ''We were very happy in Adelaide, super,'' Ecclestone, 74 – with a Melbourne GP contract until 2010 – told the Australian media. He added: ''If anything happened, if Melbourne sunk into the sea or something, we'd be back to Adelaide for sure.''
Victorian premier Steve Bracks, however, played down the significance of Mike Rann's audience with Ecclestone. ''(Bernie) knows that (Melbourne) has increased the patronage and the viewing audience (of the grand prix) around the world.''
