Sunday Morning update from Road America (Update)

UPDATE Sato is not warming up this morning because he is under the weather with a pinched nerve in his neck.

06/25/17 Good morning from the rolling hills of Wisconsin’s Kettle Moraine. The temperatures are in the low 50s this morning as the IndyCar teams are setting up their pits and getting their cars ready for the 8 am warmup session. By race time, the temperatures should be in the mid 60s.

Team Penske has a good shot at taking over the point race today, with all four cars in the first two rows of the starting grid for today's Kohler Grand Prix. The only driver on the rooster for this weekend that has won here before is Team Penske's Australian, Will Power. Team Penske has only won four times here, in 1989, 1992, 1993 and last year, with Power.

An interesting note, Newman/Haas Racing, one of the most successful teams in the history of CART, had ten wins at Road America. And some of their former crew members are now working at Dale Coyne Racing.

Looking at the championship points race, Scott Dixon is holding a narrow lead of 13 points, with half of the season in the record books. Simon Pagenaud, the winner of Phoenix race, is currently in second place. This year's Indy 500 winner, Takuma Sato, is one point behind Pagenaud, but is starting 20th today. Helio Castroneves, Pagenaud's teammate at Team Penske, is only six points behind Sato, after winning his 50th pole yesterday.

The No. 9 Chip Ganassi Racing crew of Scott Dixon captured the Firestone Pit Stop Performance Award for their total pit lane time of 3 minutes, 4 seconds during the Rainguard Water Sealers 600 (June 10). This is the second race in a row that this crew has won this award.

Race time today is 12:15 pm.

Stay tuned for more updates during the day.
