Champ Car eyes Detroit
Trans-Am driver Paul Gentilozzi, also influential in the Champ Car series as a partner and a team owner, said the two series would like to return to racing the streets of Detroit, perhaps as early as 2007. "We're talking about it," said Gentilozzi, a Lansing-based real estate developer. "We're looking at some opportunities in '07, and I think we've got a nice bunch of people in the community who are willing to help us. Some of it, honestly, depends on who wins the mayor's race."
There has been no racing in Detroit since 2001, when the CART series held the Detroit Grand Prix at Belle Island. "We need to be there (racing in Detroit)," Gentilozzi said. "Hopefully, we will work on it this summer and by spring be able to talk about it." More at Detroit News
