The UK will require electric car chargers at all major gas stations

Gas Stations should start building out EV charging options now or risk being put out of business

Electric cars are expected to reach cost parity with gas-powered vehicles as soon as 2018 – and governments around the world are introducing new legislation and incentives to keep up with increasing demand. The UK just announced a new law that requires all major petrol (gas) stations and motorway services to install electric car chargers.

If the oil companies were not still in denial that electric cars will eventually put them out of business, they would all start changing out some of their pumps to very high voltage electric charging stations and build small eateries on the property so people could buy food while waiting 30-min for their car to charge. The chargers made available should be Level 3 (car owners use 240-V Level 2 at home but on the road they need shorter charge times):

• CHAdeMO for Toyota, Nissan and Mitsubishi (62.5kW using 480 Volts)
• SAE Combo Cord – Audi, BMW, Daimler, Ford, General Motors, Porsche and Volkswagen (Varies: 50 kW up to 106kW – Max 125 A with Max 850 V DC)
• Tesla Supercharger (480V with up to 145 kW of power distributed between two adjacent cars, with a maximum of 120 kW per car)
