NASCAR to phase in Car of Tomorrow
NASCAR may be heading to a phased introduction of the so-called "car of tomorrow," rather than have all teams switch over completely in time for the 2007 season. That means Nextel Cup teams could be using the new car for either every race in '07, or just for four races that year.
Roush Racing president Geoff Smith said Sunday Roush was one of four teams that met last week with NASCAR officials regarding the car, and he believed NASCAR officials were leaning toward introducing the car first at superspeedways only.
"We don't believe there is any question as to whether it's going to be implemented. We do think it will be on a phased-in approach," Smith said.
"Turning it over at one time would produce catastrophic consequences to race team operations as we know them today. Well, catastrophic for some and at best debilitating for others." ThatsRacin.com
