Houston we have a sponsor

UPDATE #3 As it turns out, the ALMS portion of the Houston doubleheader weekend will be called the 2006 American LeMans Lone Star Grand Prix at Reliant Park so that may be where our source heard Lone Star and thought it was associated with the Champ Car race that weekend.

11/05/05 After the Mexico City race, several Champ Car executives and drivers will head to Houston for a news conference Wednesday afternoon that will include details about the weekend of racing next May at the Reliant Stadium complex. It's expected the layout of the 1.7-mile track will be announced. Among those expected at the news conference are Champ Car president Steve Johnson and drivers Andrew Ranger and Nelson Philippe. Champ Car will have some cars on display, including some pace cars and possibly the 2-seater.

10/20/05 Now hearing the announcement is due to be made in Houston the Wednesday after the Mexico City race and Lone Star may be the steakhouse, not the beer company.

10/19/05 AutoRacing1.com sources tell us that the Houston race will probably be named the Lone Star Grand Prix of Houston. We assume Lone Star Beer is probably the title sponsor. We were told the race definitely has a sponsor because someone else wanted to sponsor the event and were told, sorry you're too late. We expect a formal announcement next week in Houston where the track layout will be unveiled around Reliant Stadium.
