Marshall back to Champ Car

UPDATE The current issue of Australasian Motorsport News reports that Marcus Marshall has signed with Paul Cruickshank Racing V8 Supercars team for 2006, so unless his contract has an out clause, he won't be racing in Champ Car in 2006.

02/05/06 Our sources in Australia tell us that Marcus Marshall, who was let go by Team Australia late in the 2005 season, may return to the Champ Car World Series in 2006, possibly with Dale Coyne Racing. While he could possibly drive in V8 Supercars, we hear his family has business interests in the USA and they may want him racing stateside instead.

The Marcus family are major commercial and residential property developers in Australia and we hear they want to expand that business to the USA. Their business website is www.nolimit.com.au. With Rocketsports looking for drivers and team owner Paul Gentilozzi in the commercial real estate business, this would seem to be a potential good partnership, but what do we know? Add in Michael McDowell's sponsor, Commercial Defeasance, and you might have a match made in heaven – i.e. Michael McDowell and Marcus Marshall as teammates at Rocketsports in 2006. Pure speculation on our part because we were told Marshall was talking to Coyne and of course McDowell is driving in Grand-Am as far as we know.
