McLaren may change Montoya’s engine
(GMMf1NET) Juan Pablo Montoya could be set to join a growing band of penalized F1 drivers in Malaysia, with reports that his Bahrain-spec Mercedes V8 engine might need to be changed.
The Colombian moaned about the lackluster unit, which he said lagged teammate Kimi Raikkonen's pace by up to 5kph all weekend long.
''When we were at normal race revs, my engine was dead,'' the 30-year-old told Speed TV.
Woking based McLaren is giving nothing away about the apparent problem, but it is understood that changing the engine is an option should a specific cause (and fix) for the deficit go unidentified.
Referring to Bahrain, where he finished fifth, Montoya continued: ''If I hadn't had the problems with the engine it would have been a good race.''
