The Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli announced today that Sunoco Race Fuels has been named, “Official Race Fuel Of Trans Am." The three-year agreement begins with the 2018 racing season.

“Our new relationship with Sunoco is a perfect example of what we mean when we say we honor the rich legacy of Trans Am, but also challenge the status quo," said John Clagett, president of the Trans Am Race Company. “There’s no better example of a partner in that effort than Sunoco. Their brand is an authentic sponsorship platform backed by a long, successful history as they continue to extend their leadership in motorsports."

Sunoco Race Fuels is the largest manufacturer of racing gasoline in the world. The company’s heritage includes a long and successful association with Roger Penske’s racing efforts, starting with driver Mark Donohue who won the 1972 Indianapolis 500 in the Sunoco McLaren and took Trans-Am and Can-Am championships during the halcyon days of those series. Today Sunoco Racing Fuels sponsors a wide range of racing series covering virtually every category of race car as well as motorcycles and powerboats. Trans Am now joins NASCAR, NHRA, INDYCAR, SCCA, and British GT among the literally dozens of other sanctioning bodies sponsored by Sunoco Race Fuels.

“We are thrilled to be the Official Fuel of the Trans Am Series," said Rob Marro, Sunoco vice president and general manager of performance products. “The level of competition in Trans Am continues to attract top teams and drivers. Sunoco’s racing heritage is deeply rooted in Trans Am through the success of one of our earliest motorsports relationships with legends Roger Penske and Mark Donohue and their Sunoco Camaros. We are very excited that we will be able to add to that tremendous heritage and once again fuel victories in Trans Am."

Trans Am’s new class-based competition model that focuses on distinct classes – TA, TA2, TA3, and TA4 – has been essential to its growth. It is a decisive factor in achieving robust car counts many times with grids exceeding 70 cars. Drawing on the sport’s iconic beginnings, most of the cars are American Muscle – Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, and Corvette. These relevant racing platforms deliver authentic competition by providing a showcase of driver talent many race fans feel they have been missing. Sunoco Racing Fuels joins an impressive list of series sponsors that are elevating Trans Am to the national stage.
