F1 needs to leave Brazil before someone gets killed

Security at Grands Prix will be discussed by the FIA and Formula 1 chiefs at the next World Motor Sport Council, following a number of incidents at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

A spate of robberies, and attempted robberies, took place on Formula 1 crews over the weekend.

Members of the Mercedes team were robbed at gunpoint when traveling from the circuit to their hotel in a minibus on Friday night; although they escaped unharmed, a gun was held to one person's head.

Williams, Sauber, FIA and Pirelli staff were also caught up in attacks.

Following the decision by Pirelli and McLaren to cancel a planned tyre test this week, amid security concerns, the situation will now be formally discussed at the next WMSC meeting in early December.

"The FIA has requested that reports be collated by the Commercial Rights Holder (Formula 1) concerning the incidents and presented to the members of the World Motor Sport Council at its next meeting on December 6," read a statement on the official Formula 1 website.

"In the continued spirit of positive collaboration with Formula 1, the council will then discuss the ways in which a more consistent and effective security procedure can be applied at all events of the FIA Formula One World Championship.

"The findings will also be shared with other FIA championship organizers to maximize the positive impact this can have across all motor sport.

"Security is a cooperative effort, and the FIA will seek to work closely with Formula 1 and all its stakeholders to maintain a safe environment for everyone working at or visiting Formula 1 events."
