Lewis to replace Unser on Mi-Jack team
06/01/06 Following our report last week that Al Unser III had left the Mi-Jack Conquest Atlantics team comes word that the team is testing another driver.
Indianapolis, Indiana – The Mi-Jack Conquest Racing Atlantic Team concluded a productive two-day test at Sebring International Raceway yesterday. The winner of the Atlantic race in Monterrey, Mexico, Graham Rahal, worked on collecting data while the team tested 22-year-old British driver Ryan Lewis in their second car.
Everything went smoothly for 17-year-old Graham Rahal during the two-days in Sebring. “The test went very well for us. We were able to work on a lot of different things and we gained knowledge on what we can and can not do with the car which will be useful for the remainder of the season. We were also one of the quickest cars on track and that is always satisfying."
2004 British Formula 3 Scholarship Champion, Ryan Lewis, was testing with Conquest Racing for a second time since December and was only a few tenths behind Rahal despite the lack of experience in the new Swift 016.a / Mazda-Cosworth car.
“I really enjoyed testing with the Mi-Jack Conquest Racing Team, they did a great job. The car was quick straight out of the box, it was competitive and well-balanced which made it easy for me to get up to speed quickly and find my comfort level in the car," said Lewis. “The last car I drove was the old Atlantic car and this one is definitely a step up."
Conquest Racing co-owner, Eric Bachelart, who picked up his first Atlantic win as a team owner in Monterrey, was more than pleased with both drivers.
“Ryan did a great job during these last two days. He confirmed the potential we saw a few months ago when we tested him in the 014 car. His times were very close to those of Graham’s and it was only his first time in the new Atlantic car, so we are very happy with his performance. He also provided us with excellent feedback and everybody worked very well together," said Bachelart. “Graham did an outstanding job like usual. He gathered a lot of information, tried different things on the car and put in some competitive lap times."
