Supercars has appointed Mediacom CEO Sean Seamer to replace James Warburton as the head of the sport with a clear remit to continue the domestic and international success of the business.

Seamer was appointed from a high caliber list of high profile business and sporting leaders who expressed interest in the role.

Seamer has spent 15 years with MediaCom, working across the US, Europe, Asia and most recently here in Australia. Having successfully guided Mediacom through strong growth since his appointment as CEO in 2015, Seamer brings a wealth of experience in multiple countries across business development, marketing, sponsorship, digital media, content and organizational culture.

Seamer said: “Very few times in your life do you get the opportunity to combine your passion with your craft. For me, this is one of those rare moments. Seamer brings this wealth of experience to Supercars at a time where further international and national growth is imminent; and is firmly entrenched as Australia’s third most popular sport with an extensive global footprint across television and digital media.

Supercars Board Chairman, Archer Capital’s Peter Wiggs said: “As an incredibly talented young businessman, Sean brings many great qualities which will allow him to build seamlessly on the foundation built by James and the management team. As importantly, he has a passion for and deep understanding of the sport."

Supercars Board Member, and Prodrive Racing Australia team principal, Rod Nash said Seamer was the ideal candidate for the role given his extensive understanding and knowledge in a parallel business environment, as well as a strong knowledge of the sport.

“Sean is an outstanding leader with a proven track record in guiding businesses to further growth, he is genuinely passionate about our sport and we are very pleased he will continue the momentum built in recent years," Nash said.

Seamer will attend the Coates Hire Newcastle 500 this weekend, the grand final of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship at the newly established event in regional New South Wales, in an informal capacity. He will commence the role as CEO at a date to be confirmed next year.
