Priaulx to get BMW test ride

(GMM) Andy Priaulx is still hopeful of one day making a mark in formula one.

The 29-year-old Briton, who is the Michael Schumacher of World Touring Cars, revealed that he is actually 'waiting for a phone call' about an F1 test, although he would not confirm that the caller would be Mario Theissen.

Priaulx, pronounced 'Pree-oh', drives for BMW and last year (and in 2004) tested for the BMW-powered Williams team.

Now, he is tipped for a test for BMW-Sauber: ''We'll just have to wait and see,'' said Priaulx, who drove the team's F1 car at BMW's 'pit lane park' last weekend.

''I was quick at my (previous F1) tests,'' he added.

Priaulx, however, suggested that if a full-time F1 test seat was the only offer on the table, he would probably turn it down.

He explained: ''I'd rather be known as the Michael Schumacher of touring cars than fourth-string in an F1 team.

''But if BMW wanted to take me seriously and (go) testing I feel that I can contribute. (However) I love my racing so if I was just a third test driver doing nothing I would hate it.''
