Diesel unlikely for F1
(GMM) F1 is unlikely to follow Audi's Le Mans lead by branching into diesel technology.
That is the claim of Rob White, who is Renault's F1 engine chief.
Audi, which won the legendary 24-hour race this year with its innovative R10 sportscar, claims that Diesel technology leads to better efficiency and lower fuel consumption with similar power and torque.
But White told Italian magazine Autosprint that the future of motor sport, as outlined by the governing FIA, is in the advancement of 'alternative' fuels.
''Diesel has the same limits as petrol,'' White said, ''(in that) they are both derivatives of oil.''
