Albers to Aguri or Spyker

UPDATE (GMM) Dutch racer Christijan Albers has signed a contract to drive for Silverstone-based MF1 Racing, now owned and renamed by 'Spyker', in 2007.

The 27-year-old is closely linked with team shareholder Michiel Mol, boss of personal sponsor Lost Boys.

The 'Salzburger Nachrichten' newspaper added that Albers' contract contains an exit clause in the event that he is offered a drive for a works formula one outfit, and that current teammate Tiago Monteiro is unlikely to remain beyond the end of 2006.

Albers, meanwhile, insisted in an interview with 'Telegraaf' that – in the context of Michael Schumacher's impending retirement – more older drivers should consider making space on the grid for up-and-coming stars.

He said: ''But the teams are also to blame. They look at the familiar names too much.''

09/12/06 While it was assumed that Dutchman Christijan Albers would stay at Spyker MF1 Racing in 2007 now that it is owned by a Dutch consortium, recent rumors suggest that Albers may be off to Aguri Honda and Monteiro could keep his seat at Spyker. We have updated our 2007 F1 Silly Season page above accordingly.
