Ammermuller to grab Red Bull ride

UPDATE This rumor is upgraded to 'fact' today per today's Hot News page that Ammermuller has been granted his F1 superlicense.

09/12/06 (GMM) With Robert Doornbos moving into the race cockpit for the last three events of 2006, German youngster Michael Ammermuller is front of the queue to replace him as Red Bull's 'Friday' test driver at grands prix.

Alternatively, the outfit could promote its sister team's Neel Jani into the Red Bull team and slot Ammermuller in at Toro Rosso.

The 20-year-old GP2 driver, who is well connected with the energy drink-owned team and currently drives for boss Christian Horner's Arden squad, made his F1 debut earlier this year when he conducted straight-line testing in June.

But before appearing in Shanghai in three weeks' time, he must collect at least 300kms of testing and then apply for an FIA Super License.
