Darlington eyes open wheel race
It has been more than 50 years, and it wasn’t that successful the first time, but open-wheel, open-cockpit racing might return to Darlington Raceway.
Officials from International Speedway Corp., which owns Darlington, have had discussions with the United States Auto Club about the possibility of holding a Silver Crown event at NASCAR racing’s oldest superspeedway.
“I don’t know where it’s going to go," Darlington president Chris Browning said. “I think our company’s already hosting four of those things, and our track, at least configuration-wise, would lend itself to those cars.
“But we really won’t know if it would work until they come out here and do a test." More at TheState.com
