RYR gets “the call”
A reader writes, Dear AutoRacing1.com, Originally I failed to believe the conspiracy theorists about "The Call" in NASCAR, but now I am a firm believer that it happens a lot. The latest examples were when Kevin Harvick was going to lose GM Goodwrench as a sponsor and the team was trying to land a new sponsor. All of a sudden he started to do well and presto, they land Shell as a sponsor. Next was Robert Yates Racing, who lost sponsorship for the No. 88. All of a sudden both Yates cars sit on the front row for last weekend's Talladega race after running miserably all year. When the green flag dropped they were passed like they were towing a boat anchor. What happened to all that speed they had in qualifying? Answer – Timing & Scoring was programmed to give them the front row in qualifying to get them the free publicity in hopes of attracting a new sponsor. In the race they were slow slugs like they have been all year. I can go on and on. NASCAR is a farce. It's so transparent. Mordichai Rosen, Los Angeles, California.
