Yates still looking for sponsor for 88
MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Everyone knows that nothing is definite in racing without a solid sponsor, so it's understandable why Ford's Dan Davis wondered whether the No. 88 team of Robert Yates Racing would be around next season. Doug Yates says that while nothing's signed from a sponsorship standpoint, he isn't planning on scaling back. That [two-car team] is our intention for sure," Yates said Saturday. "We need to be going the other way. It's been a tough year for us. We need to field two cars to keep strong here." Yates said he is happy with the progress and speed of rookie David Gilliland in the No. 38 car and hopes to have him a teammate soon in the No. 88 with a new sponsor and driver to replace departing Dale Jarrett and UPS.
"I know you guys have heard this before – we're really getting close," Yates said. "We feel real good about what we're working on and hopefully we can start getting some things lined up – drivers and get our crews secure for next year." Yates said the organization is not looking at a driver-sponsor package. SceneDaily
