Already Toyota has most powerful NASCAR engine

NASCAR officials put several Trucks on its chassis dyno after Friday night's race, to compare horsepower at the rear wheels, and Toyota engines were the strongest, according to several sources. But Mike Helton, NASCAR's president, denied reports that the Toyota motors cranked out as much as 30 horsepower more than the competition.

Toyota's Truck teams, led by Todd Bodine, hold the top four spots in the championship standings and have dominated the tour this season.

NASCAR also put a number of engines on the chassis dyno after yesterday's Dickies 500.

Generally this season, NASCAR has preferred to confiscate a number of engines after each race and take them back to the research-and-development shop in Charlotte for more detailed analysis than can be handled at a track. Winston-Salem Journal
