Ford’s vote of non-confidence
UPDATE A reader writes, Dear AutoRacing1.com, I don’t believe Dan Davis for a second. It is embarrassingly obvious he is leveraging the schedule as a way out of Champ Car. How can anyone at Ford imagine that the Internationalization of Champ Car is such a bad thing at this time, especially given that they are no longer in F1? Just what “other" International series would he have chosen? And at what cost? Only a fool would believe that Davis’s comments just happen to be coincident with the fact that Ford is in serious financial trouble right now. Just as always, when searching for the truth, just follow the money… Benjamin Quinby
Dear Ben, that may be why Ford is in such trouble. Their management still does not recognize that it's a global economy now and not everything revolves around the USA. Unfortunately some backward companies are still organized around geographies such that territorial fights impede global progress. For how little Ford is spending on Champ Car there isn't a better bang for their buck on a global basis anywhere. Mark C.
12/12/06 It seems that Ford Motorsport boss Dan Davis is not enamored that Champ Car may be branching out more overseas. “If I had wanted to back an international series," says Ford Racing director Dan Davis to AutoWeek, “it wouldn’t have been Champ Car." It appears it's time for Champ Car to find someone other than Ford to badge its Cosworth engines. Not only is Ford bleeding lots of red ink, they do very little to promote the series and have a NASCAR-centric motorsport boss who thinks the world revolves just around the USA.
