Rolex 24 Hour 19 – Action Express Still 1-2, but…..
Heating issues have begun to plague the No. 31 Cadillac |
LAT for IMSA |
As you know from the previous update, the No. 5 Action Express Cadillac went to the garage about a hour ago with apparent heating issues. The trip to the garage combined with the caution period allowed the sister Action Express No. 31 to gain a lap back and close on the No. 5.
And early in the hour, with Mike Conway at the helm, the No. 31 was beginning to threaten the No. 5 for the lead. However, midway through the hour the No. 31 began losing time and ultimately was forced to make a brief trip to the garage similar to the No. 5 last hour. Currently, Conway sits three laps behind Fittipaldi with the No. 54 CORE autosport Oreca third two laps behind Conway.
Obviously, the story of the race at the moment is be the heating (or cooling, depending on how you look at it) issues of the Action Express Cadillacs. And for now, at least, it seems the cars can manage the issue with brief trips to the garage area. But for how long will that remain?
Another thing going for the Action Express team is many of its main contenders (the Penskes & Wayne Taylor Racing) have experienced issues. Therefore, with five hours remaining, the questions seems to be a matter of whether the Action Express guys can limp their ailing, but not yet debilitated cars home.
The Ganassi pair of Dirk Mueller in the No. 66 and Ryan Briscoe in the No. 67 continue to set the pace in GTLM. The No. 11 Lamborghini Huracan leads the way in GTD.
