Rolex 24: Hour 23 – 1 Hour to go and Caddys 1-2

With 1-hour to go the #5 Action Express Cadillac in the hands of Felipe Albuquerque is stroking their unhealthy car to the finish. As a result the sister #31 Action Express Cadillac with Mike Conway at the wheel has made up almost two laps and is now just under 2 laps behind and closing at 5-seconds per lap. At the same time the #31 has to hold off the #54 Oreca driven by Colin Braun.
The #5 Cadillac has a new all-time distance record for the Rolex 24 at Daytona. The previous record of 2,760.960 miles was surpassed on the No. 5 car’s 776th tour of the 3.56-mile circuit.
Only four full course caution periods have led to the record pace but it has put a real strain on the engines and the #5 team is worried..
In GTLM the Ford GTs now have a full lap lead over the old front-engine #3 and #4 Corvettes. Ryan Briscoe currently leads Joey Hand by 2.8 seconds and it's a race to the finish.
Four cars remain on the lead lap in GT Daytona. The #11 Lamborghini continues to lead in GTD with Bortolotti at the wheel, a comfortable 38 seconds ahead of the Michael Shank Acura driven by Parente.
The forecast rain appears like it will hold off until after the finish.
