Bourdais, Villeneuve and Gené to team

UPDATE #2 This rumor is upgraded to 'fact' with today's announcement – see Hot News page.

01/09/07 (GMM) Former world champion and ousted BMW-Sauber racer Jacques Villeneuve will race at Le Mans in June, according to widespread reports on Tuesday.

The news means that French Canadian Villeneuve, 35, will have a shot at becoming the first driver in history to collect motor racing's 'big four' crowns — F1, the Indy 500, America's premier open wheel title and the famous 24 hour endurance event.

Peugeot will shortly name Villeneuve, who is also linked with full time rides in NASCAR or DTM, alongside Marc Gene and Sebastian Bourdais and up to four others to steer the V12 diesel 908, the French publication L'Equipe said.

Peugeot has already confirmed Stephane Sarrazin, Nicolas Minassian and Pedro Lamy.

01/09/07 Peugeot Sport will be announcing its official program for the 2007 season tomorrow at a location “near" Paris. According to French press, the 908 V12 HDi diesel-powered LMP1 coupe has apparently already completed a private test at Paul Ricard last week. Nicolas Minassian, Stephane Sarrazin and Sebastien Bourdais are nearly certain to be announced as drivers while Marco Werner, Guy Smith, Marc Gene and Pedro Lamy have all been rumored of being part of the lineup as well. And Sebastien Bourdais, Jacques Villeneuve and Marc Gené will probably make up one of the teams. Everything should become clear on Wednesday with the French manufacturer also expecting to reveal its race schedule.
