Month of May at IMS To Be Featured in Exciting Super Bowl Regional TV Commercial
Why isn't it a national commercial for the IndyCar Series, including the Indy 500? God knows the series certainly needs that sort of exposure. Why? Because the family only cares about one thing – their Indy 500. All the money squandered away on silly shock packages would be better spent on national super bowl ads to grow the series. |
The pageantry, excitement and tradition of the Month of May at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will be featured in a regional advertisement airing on NBC's telecast of Super Bowl LII on Sunday, Feb. 4.
A 30-second spot will air on selected NBC affiliates in Indiana, including WTHR in Indianapolis, at the end of the first half and leading into the highly anticipated halftime show of the National Football League championship game between the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles. The Super Bowl annually is the highest-rated television program in America.
This is the third consecutive year the INDYCAR Grand Prix and Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil will be featured in a regional TV ad during the Super Bowl telecast.
"All of the action and excitement of May is approaching as quickly as one of the sleek new Indy cars that will be on track during the month at the Racing Capital of the World," IMS President J. Douglas Boles said. "This ad will remind the biggest television audience of the year that there's nothing in sports like the Month of May at IMS, boosting the anticipation for new and existing fans alike as the countdown to the 102nd Indianapolis 500 continues."
The commercial, created in collaboration with Indianapolis advertising and marketing agency Mortenson Kim, is an important component of the "THIS IS MAY" campaign to promote the fifth annual INDYCAR Grand Prix on Saturday, May 12 and the 102nd Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil on Sunday, May 27.
Fast-action footage features the wheel-to-wheel racing, concerts by global music superstars, pageantry, tradition and partying that help to make May at IMS the greatest month of the year for race fans in Indiana and around the world. The track "Can't Hold Me Down" by EDM superstar GRiZ – one of the performers during the Indy 500 Snake Pit presented by Coors Light on Race Day at IMS – provides a lively, pulsing soundtrack throughout the commercial.
The full 30-second ad and a one-minute extended cut will be posted on IMS channels at Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube after the Super Bowl. A 15-second teaser video of the ad also will air in the morning of Sunday, Feb. 4 on WTHR and will be available at IMS.com and on IMS social channels.
