Holdup on Rahal deal

A reader asks, Dear AutoRacing1.com, What is the real holdup on Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing signing Graham Rahal? We have been waiting for a long time. Dick Covington, Richmond, VA

Dear Dick, We are not 100% certain. Someone told us it might be Rahal's insistence of an 'out' clause after one year should he get an F1 offer. We have not been able to substantiate that information, however. As we understand it the team with help from Champ Car found the sponsor and it is not money Rahal is bringing. Therefore, we can see where they would want to keep him around a number of years or else they might be better off investing in another American that doesn't have ideas of flying the coup. Mark C.
