Tracy to sign new sponsor

UPDATE This rumor is upgraded to 'fact' today as Paul Tracy was sporting Monster Energy Drink on his helmet Saturday morning in Las Vegas. We expect a formal announcement later today.

"It's been a work in progress trying to put this deal together since the off-season," said Tracy, who donned a Monster cap and displayed his chrome finished crash helmet, now with a splash of Monster's lime green colors.

"The president of Monster came out here yesterday . . . there's been a lot of turmoil in the off-season with all the questions about the number of cars, whether this race was actually gonna happen, a lot of things. But once he got out here and saw all the cars, saw the facility, saw all the fans and the demographics we wrapped things up pretty quickly.

"I'm proud to be associated with a product like Monster and join other racers like Kenny Bernstein, Jeremy McGrath and Ricky Carmichael. They're some of the top guys in racing in North America and I'm glad to be on board."

04/06/07 According to AutoRacing1.com sources, Champ Car veteran Paul Tracy is close to landing personal sponsorship from Monster Energy drinks. Tracy was seen carrying a Monster Energy drink can in his hand on several occasions Friday and came into the post-qualifying press conference with one (pictured right). Did that extra energy boost propel him to provisional pole on Friday? Probably not as he was probably more inspired by this being his home race. Mark C.
