Pirelli renews with PWC
Pirelli has renewed its title sponsorship and official tire supplier role of the Pirelli World Challenge for the eighth consecutive year, which returns in 2018 this weekend at the picturesque St. Petersburg circuit. Pirelli World Challenge is North America’s biggest GT production based road racing series.
“Our renewal with Pirelli World Challenge demonstrates Pirelli’s commitment to elevating motorsports in North America, as right now Pirelli World Challenge has the most diverse GT racing grid in the country – from Chevrolet, Ferrari, Porsche, Bentley and Volkswagen to Hyundai and Ford. Our custom P Zero tires help equip drivers to be both fierce and in control on track, thanks to our global motorsports pedigree and experience as the official tire supplier to Formula One, which is both the most prestigious motor racing championship and ultimate tire testing laboratory that you could ask for. We’re excited about the ever increasing number of teams and new TCR class and look forward to collaborating with the teams and WC Vision to take the championship to the next level," said Rafael Navarro, Chief Marketing Officer, Pirelli Tire North America.
As the official tire supplier, Pirelli will equip all Pirelli World Challenge team cars with its next generation P Zero tires – including racing slicks and rain tires, featuring Pirelli’s latest tire technology and compounds.
Now in its 29th season, the 2018 Pirelli World Challenge offers an exciting race and team line-up across eight classes. This includes the new TCR class, GT/GTA, GT Cup, GTS, Touring Car, Touring Car A, Touring Car B-Spec classes and the SprintX category. New team entrants include Radical Sportscar NA, Bryan Herta Autosports with Hyundai, Heinlein Racing Development (TCR class debut), Callaway Competition USA (GT class with Corvette C7 GT3-R) and Jarett Andretti for David Tilton Racing & Copeland Motorsports. In addition, many 2017 PWC star teams and drivers will return, including Blackdog Speed Shop, Alvaro Parente for K-PAX Racing, Michael Cooper (now racing for Blackdog Speed Shop) and R.Ferri Motorsport RACING WITH FERRARI, to name a few.
“We’re thrilled to have Pirelli renew its partnership with Pirelli World Challenge, as we have seen their tires provide exceptional performance for this racing series and all the teams over 8 years, a true credit to Pirelli’s global motorsports heritage and more importantly, their ability to provide safe, high performing tires for diverse manufacturers and North American race conditions. We look forward to activating heavily in 2018 to increase the footprint of Pirelli World Challenge in the US and Canada," said Greg Gill, President of the Pirelli World Challenge.
