Corvette SS rumors

Here are the latest rumors on the now 650 HP Corvette SS (called the Blue Devil previously) (Photos).

  • The motor is a 6.2L supercharged V8. It's called LS9 and it is an all-new engine. The decision to make the motor supercharged rather than turbocharged was made at least two years ago. We hear that Behr will make the supercharger. The supercharger will utilize an intercooler that is integrated into the intake manifold. While the motor is making significantly more than 650hp on a test stand, we hear to look for it to be rated very close to, if not at, 650hp.
  • The brake rotors are ceramic
  • The program code is GMX245 SSC.
  • The body will have significant use of carbon fiber (CF) as well as some polycarbonate. As for CF use, expect at least the hood, roof, fenders and rockers to be CF.
  • The start of production has slipped to July 2008.
  • Expect this car to debut at NAIAS 2008. There is only one auto show GM would debut a car like this at, and it is Detroit.
  • The next generation Corvette, the C7, is slated to be in production in July 2010 and it probably will not be mid-engine as some have reported. The C7 Z06 will go into production sometime in 2011.
