Will Denver return?

UPDATE This rumor is downgraded to 'false' today. We have learned that the debris fence and cable was recently sold to Brainerd International Raceway in MN, the bridges are being sold and someone is interested in the barriers walls…the promoter is bankrupt and closed. We're pretty sure if Champ Car was thinking about bring it back themselves they wouldn’t be selling off the assets.

09/26/07 A reader asks, Dear AutoRacing1.com, When the Denver race was cancelled Champ Car said it was for one year and that they might be back. Might it return for 2008? Don Westphall

Dear Don, Yes, it might, we stress the word might. The Democratic National Convention interferes with the only weekend date available (ie Auraria Campus restriction) for 2008 and thus there will be little likelihood on the race being staged in 08… earliest would be 09. We hear there is talk about it in Denver, but we'll have to wait and see if there is any credence to it. Our inside sources in Denver tell us that preliminary engineering work is secretly being done for a NASCAR track outside of Denver, so you know ISC will do whatever lobbying it can to kill off Champ Car's efforts in Denver should they get approval to build a track.
