Audi Sport Named Presenting Sponsor for PWC Grand Prix of Virginia

Pirelli World Challenge announced today that Audi Sport will serve as the presenting sponsor for the upcoming PWC Grand Prix of Virginia schedule for April 27-29 at the picturesque 3.27-mile, 17-turn VIRginia International Raceway permanent road circuit in south Virginia.

Audi Sport, a participant in three of the Pirelli World Challenge categories in 2018 – GT, GTS and TCR – has an extensive program for the VIR racing weekend this month including a variety of consumer activation projects, track hospitality and on-track “hot lap" experiences for many Audi VIP’s.

In addition, the Audi sports car will serve as the official PWC pace car for the three-day racing spectacular, PWC Grand Prix of Virginia Presented by Audi Sport, with some 100 cars in action.

“We’re excited to have so many of our Audi Sport racing partners competing in PWC this season and proud to be the presenting sponsor of the VIR race in the home state of our Headquarters", said Tristan Herbert, Senior Manager, Audi Sport customer racing, located in Herndon, VA.

The Audi R8 LMS GT3 sports car, driven by Mike Skeen, holds the VIR Pirelli World Challenge track record set last year with a time of one minute, 42.989 seconds at an average speed of 114.30 miles per hour.

In 2018, Audi of America’s racing presence features a line-up of at least one Audi R8 LMS GT3, five R8 LMS GT4’s and three RS3 LMS entries and it is the largest Audi presence to compete in PWC in the brand’s history.

“Audi Sport has been a longtime partner with the Pirelli World Challenge and we are very pleased to increase its involvement with the presenting sponsor role at VIR," said Greg Gill, president and CEO of WC Vision, producers of the Pirelli World Challenge. “The VIR event last year was a popular venue with the racers and the fans, and we expect another exciting racing weekend on April 27-29 with an outstanding field of competitors. And adding Audi Sport as a primary partner to the weekend makes for a great event."

The PWC Grand Prix of Virginia Presented by Audi Sport will begin on Friday (April 27) with practice rounds followed by qualifying and racing on Saturday (April 28). Sunday (April 29) will feature the second of the doubleheader events including GT SprintX, GTS SprintX and Touring Car competitions.
