Alonso Renault stalemate

There appears to be a bit of a stalemate between Renault and Fernando Alonso. The Renault Formula 1 team has offered Fernando Alonso a contract with the team for the upcoming years team boss Flavio Briatore confirmed. On Friday Alonso and McLaren made an announcement that the Spaniard leaves the team after just one season with the team.

Briatore expects to clear it up soon. He told Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport: "Let's wait and see what happens in the next few days. I have presented a plan for Fernando's future at our team. If he wants he can race with us in 2008."

The Italian did admit though the team would not be interested to sign Alonso for just one year, but rumors persist that Alonso wants a one year deal so he can move to Ferrari in 2009. Hence the holdup in Renault announcing Alonso is signed.
