Overheard in Mexico City – 4
We are hearing that a street race is a possibility in Spain in 2009 or beyond. If so, we wonder if Jerez might just be a 1-year deal for now……..The Justin Wilson deal with NHLR is not done yet. Perhaps in a few weeks. Money is always an issue, but CDW's corporate headquarters is in Vernon Hills, IL, which is only 3 miles (about 6 minutes) from Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing's headquarters in Lincolnshire, IL. An advantage compared to any out of town (e.g., Indianapolis-based) team………..Look for Carl Skerlong and Frankie Muniz to be teammates on the PCM Champ Car Atlantic team in 2008. We hear Muniz is real excited about the opportunity……..We hear James Hinchcliffe is trying to put together a deal to run Champ Car in 2008, but he tells us if that is not possible, Grand-Am, ALMS or even ARCA are possibilities. Hinchcliffe does an excellent job in the announcing booth for the Champ Car International TV feed so he knows he will always have a career in racing one way or the other. Hinchcliffe is one of the Greg Moore award nominees this year………….Hearing that Robert Doornbos will probably be back with Minardi next year….Rumors of Red Bull leaving Champ Car may be premature we hear. Talks are still ongoing. Mark C. reporting from Mexico City
