Overheard in Mexico – 4
We hear there is going to be some very positive news coming out soon about the Cleveland GP Champ Car race. Apparently a major developer is going to take the airport private and do much development around the airport including hotels, restaurants, shops and condos with the race a key part of the development. It will give the event a much better atmosphere and ambiance and will be a major boost for the race. The track or airport runway configuration will not change as a result of the development. We hear the City of Cleveland has really gotten behind the Grand Prix…….We hear that the IRL is trying to land a race in Monterrey, Mexico, we assume through their puppet organization AGR and that Champ Car is right in there looking at possibly going back with a downtown street race. The city has built a riverwalk from downtown to Fundidora Park that we hear is quite nice and very much like the one in San Antonio, Texas……Word is that A1GP is trying to land a race in Canada and Calgary is one of the cities they are looking at……We hear if CDW does not stay in Champ Car with Justin Wilson at NHLR that they will probably do a big deal with Acura and American Honda in the ALMS where the opportunity for more B2B deals is much higher given all the sponsors and major manufacturers in the ALMS.
