Champ Car eyes Donington

UPDATE #2 The December 4th date has come and gone. This rumor is downgraded to 'false' today. A spokesperson for Champ Car told AutoRacing1.com today, "Our 2008 schedule has been released and we have no current plans to change it."

11/26/07 We are upgrading this rumor to 'strong' as we hear Champ Car is hoping to add a September 14th or 21st race at Donington in 2008 to be paired up with the Assen race. This does not mean it will happen, but it would have to be approved at the December 4th World Council Meeting for it to be added in 2008. Tony Cotman has been appointed to the FIA's Circuits & Safety Commission. Will that help Champ Car gain approval? Can't hurt. The clock is ticking…..

The 2.5-mile Donington circuit

07/28/07 We are hearing that Donington Park in England is definitely in the running to possibly get a Champ Car event in 2008. The 2.5-mile track, which is under new ownership is getting a facelift (See related Hot News item).

Donington’s parkland setting provides a natural amphitheatre for spectators, and the track's layout – with fast, sweeping curves and undulation changes – makes it challenging for competitors. The race of course would be contingent on Champ Car finding a race to pair it with. You already read our Greece rumors, but other tracks are possible as well.
