RoC to invite Hamilton in ’08

McLaren ace Lewis Hamilton could become the star attraction of next year's Race of Champions, particularly if the end-of-season extravaganza returns to Wembley Stadium in 12 month's time.

This year's event, starring Michael Schumacher, Jenson Button, David Coulthard and eventual winner Matthias Ekstrom, played out in front of more than 50,000 people.

But RoC co-founder and organizer Fredrik Jonsson reckons the stadium could have been sold-out if F1's 22-year-old super-rookie had been in attendance.

"Obviously with it being just before Christmas there is a lot of people shopping, so that might have had an effect," he said. "But I'm sure if Lewis had been involved then we would also have had a bigger crowd because he did a fantastic job this year, and he is so popular. Lewis has always said he wants to do it, and we certainly hope we can work something out so he can make it next year."

"There is every chance we will come back," said Jonsson. "We are very happy with how it all went. Brent Council and Wembley Stadium were very helpful in the planning of this event. We had been hoping for a sellout, but we sold more than 50,000 tickets, which is good."
