Autosport.com reports that Mathias Lauda, the son of three-times world champion Niki Lauda, is looking increasingly likely to turn his back on racing in Europe this season and make the switch to the Champ Car World Series – probably with the front-running Forsythe Racing outfit.
His brother Lukas, who is managing Mathias' career, has admitted that a switch to Champ Car is an attractive option.
“It is easier to find a budget of three million dollars for ChampCar racing than 1.2 million dollars for a series such as the GP2, where no one knows how it will evolve," he said.
“More so, if you are performing nicely in Champ Car racing as a rookie, as seventh or so, you are the hero. If you finish third or fourth in GP2, no one will give a toss."
Lukas Lauda is understood to be in Chicago this week finalizing a deal with Forsythe to see his brother become a part of its four-car effort this year.
“Mr. Forsythe is not only interested, he even wants to invest some money into the career of Mathias," he said.
