7 (now 5) drivers vie for Force India track cleaner seat
A multitude of apparent contenders for the berth alongside Adrian Sutil – including Giancarlo Fisichella, Ralf Schumacher, Tonio Liuzzi, Roldan Rodriguez, Franck Montagny, Christian Klien and Giedo van der Garde – recently tested for the newly acquired team.
Since then, Schumacher has ruled himself out, and it is reported that Montagny is also planning to leave F1 to possibly race either sports cars or American Champ Cars in 2008.
It now emerges that van der Garde, the young Dutchman who was stuck in a contractual dispute with Spyker and Super Aguri about a testing role this year, has signed to remain in the World Series by Renault in 2008.
He will drive for P1 Motorsport this year, after finishing the series fifth in 2007.
"It was a very difficult decision because I had several options in World Series as well as GP2," he said in a statement, which described van der Garde as 'part of the McLaren driver development program and test driver for Force India formula one'.

A backmarker team is sent out early in all F1 practice and qualifying sessions to blow the dust and rubber off the track for the fast teams, so in essence, these seven drivers are vying to be a lowly street cleaner.
