Scheckter likely back at Indy 500

Luczo Dragon, co-owned by Roger Penske's son, Jay, and Steve Luczo, fielded a car for Ryan Briscoe in last year's 500. Jay Penske said Thursday that details should be finalized next week, but he endorsed driver Tomas Scheckter, who is unemployed after two seasons at Vision Racing.
"He's certainly one of the best out there who doesn't have a ride," Penske said.
Briscoe finished fifth in last year's 500, using that performance to replace Sam Hornish Jr. at Penske Racing. He will team with two-time 500 winner Helio Castroneves this season.
Scheckter has more IRL experience than Briscoe and is an established oval-track driver, particularly at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He led 85 laps as a rookie in 2002 before crashing with a 10-second lead on the 173rd lap. He led 63 laps the next year, finishing fourth.
Scheckter has won two IRL races, one each with Cheever Racing (at Michigan in 2002) and Panther Racing (Texas in 2005). He has won eight poles, all on oval tracks.
Jay Penske said his team plans to run one race prior to Indy — likely the April 27 event at Kansas Speedway — and one other in the market of the primary sponsor. Indy Star
