Hakkinen and wife Erja to divorce

(GMM) Former double world champion Mika Hakkinen, who is 39, and his wife Erja, are getting a divorce, according to reports.

The German national daily Bild-Zeitung said the Finnish pair, who have two young children (Hugo and Aina-Julia) and live in Monaco, are parting ways.

"I am very surprised," said German motor sports commentator Hans-Joachim Stuck.

"To me they always seemed like the Finnish version of Michael and Corinna Schumacher — a perfect couple," he added.

45-year-old Erja Hakkinen, whose maiden name is Honkanen, is a former television journalist. Mika Hakkinen recently retired from the German touring car series DTM.
