Firestone bringing new rain tire to Detroit (Update)

05/31/18 Firestone Racing will be launching a new Firestone Firehawk rain tire in Detroit. The new race tire is the first new rain tire design in three years. Firestone Racing worked with INDYCAR, drivers and teams, as well as the Bridgestone passenger tire engineers, to develop the new tire for enhanced grip in wet conditions and improved hydroplaning performance.

"This asymmetric and directional design features a unique pattern on each corner of the car to achieve ultimate water evacuation, braking, acceleration and cornering performance," said Cara Adams, Chief Engineer, Bridgestone Americas Motorsports. "Racing continues to provide the ultimate proving ground for Firestone technology and this new pattern is our most innovative rain tire to date. We will bring race proven primary and alternate tires, the same used at all street courses in 2018."
