Franchitti might get IndyCar ride for Ganassi

Dario Franchitti can return to IndyCar if he so desires according to Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates co-owner Felix Sabates. Ganassi racing shuttered the team that Franchitti had been competing in the Cup Series with earlier this week due to lack of sponsorship.

In a radio interview Sabates said that Chip Ganassi is open to allowing Franchitti do whatever it is he wants to do.

"Chip pretty much told him if he wanted to go to back to Indy that, because it doesn't cost nearly as much money there as it does here (in NASCAR)," said Sabates. “Over there Chip is the Rick Hendrick of here, so he can get a sponsor for an IndyCar very easily." CupScene [Related Rumor]

The next move according to Sabates is up to Franchitti.

“He's got his choice," Sabates said. “If he wants to drive the Nationwide car to get some more experience and maybe we'll get a sponsor for next year, or whether he wants to go back to the IRL, is up to Dario – he has a contract and we intend to honor it."

Sabates added that he expects Franchitti to compete in the Nationwide Series, and didn't rule out a return in two weeks' time at Chicago.

"At the end of the day," Sabates said. “I think he will get in the Nationwide car, he needs more seat time anyway."
