Bill France Sr. FBI Informant?

NASCAR founder Bill France Sr. was an informant for the FBI, that according to a report in the Boston Globe. In a report concerning the role of the original owner of the New England Patriots, Billy Sullivan who they report was ‘source of information’ for the Bureau, The Globe said that they obtained an internal memo under the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act that has France on a list of prominent FBI contacts developed through the years.

Along with France, the list included Walt Disney, and Joseph P. Kennedy. Their services purportedly included providing information and serving as liaisons between the FBI and other influential figures.

While no date on the role or scope of France’s involvement emerged, FBI director J. Edgar Hoover asked the Special Agent In Charge (SAC) in Boston to develop Sullivan as a possible source in 1959, five months before Sullivan purchased the New England Patriots. The development never came to fruition however as Sullivan was discounted by the SAC as a source due to his extensive involvement with the purchase of the team. Cupscene.com
