Senna to land test seat at McLaren in 2009?

UPDATE #2 (GMM) A week after dismissing the latest round of rumors, GP2 frontrunner Bruno Senna insists he still has not secured a seat on the 2009 formula one grid.

Raging speculation at Valencia two weeks ago suggested the Brazilian, the nephew of the great Ayrton Senna, had signed to race next year with the partly Gerhard Berger-owned Toro Rosso team.

It was also rumored on the verge of the European grand prix that Senna, 24, may be close to penning a back-up option to become BMW-Sauber's test driver in 2009.

"All I can say at the moment that none of these rumors has any basis in fact," he said in his latest column for motorsports-magazine.com.

"We are currently engaged in serious negotiations with various people from various teams, but nothing has been decided yet."

It is suggested that Senna's situation, as with many subjects of the current F1 silly-season, will develop over the next few weeks.

08/25/08 This rumor is downgraded to 'speculation' today. Bruno Senna has offered a choice rejoinder to raging speculation at Valencia that he has now signed to make his formula one debut next year with Toro Rosso.

It was also rumored on the verge of the European grand prix, scene also of the support category GP2 for which 24-year-old Senna competes, that the nephew of the great Ayrton Senna may be close to penning a back-up 'option' to become McLaren's test driver in 2009.

The Brazilian was asked specifically by reporters about the latest Toro Rosso story.

"Yeah, I've been hearing that story as well … oh dear," he laughed, according to GPWeek.

'Oh dear' indeed, but is it true?

"No, it's all lies. All bullshit," Bruno Senna replied.

08/22/08 Rumors about a possible Formula One future for Bruno Senna, nephew of Ayrton Senna, have taken a new turn. After being linked with the Scuderia Toro Rosso, Bruno is now put together with the McLaren Mercedes team.

Hilton Sport Sponsorships announced Bruno Senna as their new Hilton Racing's newest Brand Ambassador. The Hilton Hotel chain is one of the sponsors of the McLaren Mercedes Team and therefore links Senna to the Woking-based outfit.

It could be possible that Bruno Senna will join McLaren as test driver for the 2009 season as Heikki Kovalainen and Lewis Hamilton are both certain of their race seat next season. But in 2010, Lewis Hamilton and Bruno Senna might team up and form the public relations 'dream team' for McLaren.

Bruno Senna's uncle, Ayrton, raced for McLaren from 1988 to 1993 and won 3 championship titles with the team.
