Franchitti eyes 4th RCR seat

UPDATE This rumor is downgraded to 'false' with the announcement today by Target Chip Ganassi Racing that Dario Franchitti will replace Dan Wheldon in the No. 10 IndyCar next year.

08/09/08 Dario Franchitti has been talking to teams and manufacturers about driving next season – in all sorts of series. “I haven’t talked to anybody in the IndyCar Series yet," Franchitti said. “I’ve talked to a lot of other places, though." Franchitti said he will talk to other teams in NASCAR, though he said he hasn’t spoken to Tony Stewart about the #4 Stewart-Haas Racing ride. Richard Childress Racing’s fourth car is a possibility, he said. “I speak to Richard all the time," Franchitti said. “We haven’t spoken specifically about the fourth car yet, but that’s a subject I’m definitely going to talk to him about, for sure." Franchitti is still considering a number of options for his future outside NASCAR, including a switch to the American Le Mans Series.

"Right now is seven Nationwide races, but there's still the chance for me to do other stuff in other series as well," Franchitti said. "Whether it's Cup, whether it's sports cars, I've got the option to do that.

"But right now the core of that is probably going to be seven races in Nationwide."
