Kubica inks new BMW deal for 2009 – report
"It's the first time I heard this," the Pole told reporters at Spa-Francorchamps, scene of this weekend's Belgian grand prix.
When asked whether he expects to race with BMW next year, Kubica, 23, answered: "I don't know. We will see. I don't see a need to hurry."
He was, however, prepared to name his tip for the 2008 championship — Ferrari's on-form Brazilian driver, Felipe Massa.
"I think in the past he did quite a lot of mistakes, and also starting this season, but lately he is doing really a very good job," said Kubica.
"To put Kimi in trouble is not easy and he has done it. Okay, in some races Kimi is still quicker but lately Felipe has been more often in front of him and with quite big gaps."
08/26/08 (GMM) Robert Kubica is believed to have penned a one-year extension to his contract to race with BMW-Sauber in 2009, the British newspaper Daily Telegraph on Tuesday said.
The London based publication speculates that the news, which is yet to be confirmed officially, could pave the way for the Pole to move on to Ferrari a season later.
At Valencia on Sunday, team boss Mario Theissen suggested that he would "prefer" longer term agreements with his top drivers.
The Daily Telegraph said Theissen wanted a new three-year deal with Kubica.
Theissen at Valencia also revealed that BMW-Sauber will confirm its full 2009 driver lineup "between now and the end of the season".
